Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.9 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $15,262 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $436 more than the $14,826 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 223.4 percent more than residents this year, or $49,350. Their price tag grew 3.9 percent from $47,476 in 2017-18.

About 53 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. About 43 percent are residents of other states and 4 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 63 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,426 students received grants or scholarships totaling $66.2 million and 2,153 students took out student loans totaling more than $15.3 million.

Including all undergraduates (46,716), 15,229 students used grants or scholarships totaling $300.4 million, and 8,933 students took out $58.4 million in federal student loans.
