The entire city of Novi remains under a precautionary citywide Boil Water Advisory due to multiple equipment malfunctions at several pump stations during the recent storm. Commerce Township and Walled Lake are also under an advisory.
The Great Lakes Water Authority is collecting the first round of samples this morning and has scheduled the second round needed for testing for Wednesday morning. Two clean samples, 24 hours apart are required to lift the precautionary Boil Water Advisory. Crossing our fingers for clean samples and being able to lift the Advisory early Thursday! We will provide updates on testing as soon as they are available.
There have been some questions about the scope of the Advisory in Novi. A map is provided at https://cityofnovi.org/emergency-notification/emergency .
Additionally, many in our community are without power. DTE has shared crews and teams are out assessing damage to understand the breadth and scope of the damage impacting more than 220,000 customers in the metropolitan area. Winds gusting to 70 mph damaged trees, power lines and equipment on the grid. They are working as quickly and safely as possible to assess damage and begin restoration. Due to current phone service interruptions, DTE asks customers to report outages, check their status and reported downed wires at outage.dteenergy.com.
At this time, they do not have estimates for restoration. They are working to provide an update as soon as possible. They have more than 220 crews in the field at this time, and more crews coming in to assist efforts.
The Novi Civic Center and Novi Public Library are open and serve as a place of respite and provide the opportunity to charge mobile devices. Unfortunately, Lakeshore Park and the Novi Ice Arena are without power.
