Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the news that the Supreme Court will hear United States v. Rahimi in its next term, which considers whether the government can forbid domestic abusers from possessing firearms.

“Perpetrators of domestic violence should not be able to access a firearm, period. Survivors with protection orders deserve full protection and safety under the law, and we provide that peace of mind and safety by keeping weapons out of the hands of their abusers. Not only must we maintain existing protections for survivors of domestic violence, but we must also strengthen and expand them by closing the boyfriend loophole to prevent abusive dating partners and stalkers from possessing weapons. Survivors deserve our full support and all the resources and protections necessary to heal, and I will always fight for them.”
