Dr. Andrew Cornett, a professor in the exercise science program at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), has been appointed as the new associate dean of the EMU Honors College.

Cornett, who earned his Ph.D. in Human Performance from Indiana University, began his tenure at EMU in 2011. He served as the undergraduate program coordinator for exercise science from 2014 to 2024.

His research interests are influenced by his undergraduate experience at DePauw University, where he was a member of the swim team. Cornett focuses on topics such as the effect of maturation timing on sports performance across different age groups and the statistical analysis of sports performance data.

Cornett expressed enthusiasm for his new role, citing his passion for student interaction and the holistic mission of the Honors College. “I’m thrilled to be joining the Honors College team because I get to help with program administration while still getting to advise students and assist them with their research projects,” he stated. “I think that it’s important for students to have a safe, welcoming, and supportive community if they are going to be able to discover the world, explore new ideas, and reach their true potential.”

As associate dean, Cornett aims to support both faculty and staff within the Honors College in fostering a supportive community for students at EMU. Ann Eisenberg, Dean of the Honors College, welcomed Cornett's appointment. "I am delighted to have Dr. Cornett join the Honors College as its newest associate dean, and I look forward to his strong leadership and administrative contributions," stated Eisenberg. "His experience in guiding students in research and leadership along with his thoughtfulness and organizational skills will be an asset for the Honors College as we continue to support outstanding students in their journey to achieve their academic and leadership goals."
