Eastern Michigan University has announced that Emma Main from Canton, Michigan, is one of the 21 students selected as a Presidential Scholar for 2024. This honor is given to first-year students who show outstanding academic performance, leadership skills, and community involvement.

The EMU Presidential Scholarship is valued at up to $100,000 and covers full tuition, fees, and room and board for four years. Recipients are active members of The Honors College at EMU, which offers additional opportunities for critical thinking and leadership development.

"Receiving this scholarship allows me to focus on the importance of leadership, collaboration, and teamwork," said Main. "I am majoring in nursing, and having time to focus on these things is crucial when working in healthcare to ensure that the environment is safe, inclusive, and productive."

Main graduated from Salem High School and aims to become a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. During high school, she volunteered at local running events with Running Fit organization and participated in P-Cep Pal’s club to support students with disabilities. She was also involved in HOSA– Future Health Professionals.

At EMU, Main has joined the Student Nurse Association and expressed interest in becoming a board member. "I would love to continue working with students who have disabilities and am currently looking into some opportunities," she said.

Ann Eisenberg, dean of the Honors College stated: "We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU and the Honors College this fall. They come from different backgrounds but share a passion for learning, service, and leadership."

The scholarship aligns with EMU's mission to promote student success while making a positive impact globally. Students can apply during their senior year of high school.

Founded in 1849 as Michigan's second oldest public university, Eastern Michigan University serves nearly 13,000 students across various disciplines. It offers over 300 programs through its colleges.
