Eastern Michigan University is set to host its annual Digital Divas Conference on October 25, 2024. The event will take place at the Student Center Ballroom in Ypsilanti and will welcome 200 high school girls. The conference aims to provide valuable insights into careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The Digital Divas Conference brings together professionals, educators, and industry experts who will share their experiences and knowledge with attendees. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops covering various topics such as construction, interior design, electrical engineering, chemistry, astronomy, physics, esports, and more.
Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), stated: “We are proud to offer this incredible opportunity for high school girls to explore STEM careers in an environment that encourages curiosity and confidence. This event is about inspiring the next generation of women innovators, creators, and leaders.”
Several schools are participating in this year's conference including Airport High School Upward Bound, Central Academy, Hope of Detroit Academy among others.
The conference is supported by sponsors who advocate for a diverse STEM community. Sponsors include Toyota, Wacker Chemical Corporation (Wacker), American Association of University Women (AAUW) Ann Arbor Branch ITC Holdings Corp., and DTE Foundation.
Since its establishment in 2010 by EMU's GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology Digital Divas has engaged over 10 thousand middle- and high-school girls from southeast Michigan encouraging them towards STEM fields.
