Eastern Michigan University (EMU) students have excelled in the national Configura Awards, claiming the top three positions in the Student Rendering category. The competition is sponsored by Swedish software company Configura and highlights skills in interior design using advanced technology.

Senior students Raneem Alani, Hollyann Moody, and Izabella Rachel achieved first, second, and third places respectively. Under the guidance of Assistant Professor Diane Guevara, Ph.D., they utilized CET Designer software to create detailed 3D renderings of their projects.

“Being able to translate their designs into a virtual reality experience demonstrates the incredible potential of CET Designer to transform interior design education and practice,” said Guevara. She added that the competition allows students to explore creativity and technology at a national level.

Alani overcame both academic and personal challenges during her participation. "I aimed to expand my design boundaries by experimenting with new techniques," she stated. Alani credited Dr. Guevara for providing invaluable support throughout her journey.

CET Designer allows users to visualize and modify complex environments effectively. The competition emphasizes innovative solutions, problem-solving, and practical application of software skills.

Professor Guevara expressed pride in her students' accomplishments. “Their success reflects not only their individual talent and hard work but also the strength of our program," she said.

EMU's Interior Design program integrates cutting-edge tools like CET Designer into its curriculum, equipping students with essential industry skills. The program aims to prepare graduates for the evolving demands of interior design.
