Eastern Michigan University will host the "Run for Understanding: Autism Awareness 5K" to promote awareness and support for autism. The event, organized by Adelaide Roell, an Honors College senior, aims to celebrate World Autism Day on April 2. Scheduled for Saturday, April 5 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the 5K will start at the Lake House on EMU's campus.

"Hosting a 5K walk fundraiser for autism awareness during Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Acceptance Month is a powerful way to bring our community together in support of inclusion and education," Roell said. "Every step taken raises awareness and will benefit local ASD classrooms, as donations will be going towards creating a more enriching learning environment for children and providing students with the resources, tools, and support they need to thrive."

The event aims to bring together the Ypsilanti and Eastern communities to further understanding of autism spectrum disorder. The 5K is open to participants of all ages and abilities, with snacks and drinks available on the route.

Participants are encouraged to wear colorful attire. Joining the race involves a $10 donation benefiting Ypsilanti Community High School's special education department. Monetary contributions and volunteers are welcome, and those volunteering will have their participation fee waived.
