City of Houghton issued the following announcement on July 15.
We just have to share this cute tortoise and her story. She is a Sulcata tortoise and she’s a big girl who is a powerhouse. This sweet sass broke out of her enclosure and decided she wanted to take a walk. Thankfully, the Houghton Police Department stops for turtles, saw this girl and pulled over to get her off the road. She was spoiled with an MTU professor and someone from the DNR who knows tortoises said she is beautiful and well taken care of. She has been reunited with her owner and I’m sure she’s happy to be home.
Thank you to Houghton Police Department and to everyone else who helped get this girl home.
