State Representative Jason Woolford (R-Howell) met with officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services this week to discuss the Michigan House Oversight Committee’s ongoing efforts to ensure government accountability and safeguard taxpayer funds.

Woolford was accompanied by Oversight Chair Representative Jay DeBoyer, members of their legal team, and federal DHHS officials. The meeting focused on strategies for fraud prevention, improving accountability, and ensuring that both state and federal funds are used appropriately.

“I made a promise to stop out-of-control government and this economic crisis,” said Woolford. “The House Oversight Committee is working hard to hold government departments accountable. From the White House to the State House, we are working to eliminate the fraud, waste, and misuse of Michigan’s state funds.

“The best way to uncover fraud and abuse often comes from those inside government who see problems firsthand. Our government cannot change if people are too afraid to come forward. The whistleblower protection bill, House Bill 4781, makes sure that those who speak up about abuse and mismanagement are protected, not punished. Protecting these truth-tellers is how we protect Michigan taxpayers and eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse.

“This meeting was just one step, and there will be more to come. The Oversight Committee will keep pushing for answers and fighting for Michigan families.”

The discussion also highlighted proposed legislative measures such as House Bill 4781 aimed at strengthening protections for whistleblowers who report misconduct within government agencies.
