City of Portage recently issued the following announcement.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are right around the corner. Cybercriminals create online stores that claim to sell hard-to-find items and lure in customers by running ads on other websites, social media platforms, and even in Google search results.
DON'T GET SCAMMED!
> Watch out for misspelled or look-alike domains. Cybercriminals spoof popular brand names by changing the spelling slightly.
> Be cautious of unbelievable deals on high-demand products. Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is!
> Shop from well-known and trusted retailers. If you haven’t shopped there before, look for reviews for that retailer.
