City of Niles issued the following announcement on Dec 16.
Governor Whitmer issued a press release yesterday to remind Michigan residents of help that is available to them during the winter months. If you or someone you know needs help, visit the links below for help staying warm.
- Some customers may be eligible for State Emergency Relief (SER) or the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP). These programs provide financial assistance. Need some help applying? Call 2-1-1 and ask for an MEAP Representative near you for help.
- The Winter Protection Plan is also in place to protect seniors and low-income customers of MPSC-regulated natural gas and electric companies.
- Medical emergency, critical care, and active-duty military family shut-off protections are also available.
- Residents can see if their household qualifies for the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) Program. CERA helps with assistance toward electricity, home heating, water, and sewer.
- Home Heating Credits are also available. This funding is distributed through the Department of Treasury.
- Winterization of your home also helps reduce your utility bills.
