Eastern Michigan University (EMU) will host its 2024 Student Employment Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Student Center Ballroom, located at 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti. The event is aimed at both new and returning students seeking part-time job opportunities on and off campus.
The fair will feature over 75 employers from various sectors such as restaurants, retailers, hotels, healthcare facilities, daycare centers, and local businesses. EMU campus departments will also be present to offer a range of positions that align with students' schedules and career goals. Notable participants include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Detroit office), the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, Ozone House, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan.
"We understand how important it is for our students to find flexible employment that complements their academic commitments," said John Carlson, senior corporation relations manager of University Advising and Career Development Center at EMU. "This fair is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a variety of part-time roles, network with potential employers, and take a significant step towards their career goals."
Students are encouraged to register for the fair through Handshake, EMU's career platform. To register, students should log in to the EMU Handshake portal with their EMU credentials, navigate to the "Events" section, and search for "2024 EMU Student Employment Fair." Once they find the event listing, they can click "Register" to confirm their attendance. After registering, students will receive an email with important event details and updates.
Students are advised to prepare by bringing:
- A copy of their class schedule
- A copy of their financial aid award letter if eligible for College Work Study
- Multiple copies of their resume
- A notebook and two pens
While maintaining a casual atmosphere, students are recommended to dress professionally to make a positive impression on employers.
