Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has announced the return of its “Explore Ypsi” gift card program for the third consecutive year. This initiative, in collaboration with Engage @ EMU, GameAbove, and the Ypsilanti Downtown Development Authority, aims to encourage students, faculty, and staff to support local businesses throughout the semester.

The program will distribute 2,000 $10 gift cards to EMU community members. These cards can be collected from Boone Hall, room 203, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each participant is eligible for one gift card per EMU email address.

“The program doesn’t just support students and staff,” said Sam Carter, communications and operations manager for Engage @ EMU. “It supports our whole community. When I used my gift card as a student, I got the opportunity to uncover Ypsilanti in a way that I would not have been able to without the extra money.”

The “Explore Ypsi” gift cards are valid at 25 local businesses spanning various sectors such as dining, hair care, and hardware stores. This year’s addition of the Ypsilanti Farmers Market will also allow participants access to fresh, locally grown food.

In addition to Boone Hall distribution points, gift cards will be available at various on-campus events throughout the semester. Swoop’s Pantry will also offer a limited number of gift cards to its shoppers.

Carter expressed optimism about the program's impact: “Once you’ve been around Ypsi once, Ypsi calls you back. You’ll have so many places you’ll want to go back to.”
