Eastern Michigan University (EMU) hosted a virtual workshop titled “Cybersecurity in Aerospace Engineering” on August 28, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. The event aimed to foster international dialogue on cybersecurity.
“We really wanted to initiate an international dialogue about cybersecurity,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “With the field rapidly expanding around the world, a conversation with global context in mind is essential for students.”
The workshop was inaugurated by Eastern Michigan University President James Smith, who welcomed IIT Bombay students. Dean Qatu and EMU faculty members presented various topics, including cybersecurity research, AI safety, and E-voting.
Eastern professors and doctoral students delivered presentations as follows:
- Mohammed Alsaleh, associate professor: "General Cybersecurity Research Perspectives"
- Tauheed Khan Mohd, assistant professor: "Securing CAN Bus: Analyzing and Mitigating Vulnerabilities in Modern Vehicles”
- Mosladdin Shueb, Ph.D student: "AI Safety and Consciousness"
- Brian Hildebrand, Ph.D student: "Blockchain-based E-voting System Using Quantum Encryption"
Dean Qatu expressed his intention to participate in more international events. “We will always look for opportunities to expand our mindset, knowledge, and connections with other universities around the world.”
