Eastern Michigan University (EMU) held a dedication ceremony for the newly renovated Bruce T. Halle Library on October 17, acknowledging the substantial contribution from The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation. The event was attended by over 100 guests and featured speeches from EMU Regent Nathan Ford, President James Smith, Provost Rhonda Longworth, and Jill Hunsberger of the EMU Foundation.
The renovation project involved extensive upgrades to the first floor of the Halle Library, covering more than 27,000 square feet. This transformation aimed to foster collaboration within the campus community by creating flexible study areas, technology-rich classrooms, and a café to enhance student engagement.
“The Halle Library has served as a vanguard, state-of-the-art learning facility at Eastern Michigan University for almost 25 years,” stated President James Smith. He added that with support from The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation, EMU is taking initial steps in a master plan to restore the library's original vision while staying at the forefront of educational change.
The dedication event included a reception and tours of the updated spaces. The library's new design emphasizes collaboration and integrates student academic support services crucial for student success and retention.
The renewed Halle Library underscores EMU's commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment that supports academic success and serves as a central hub for the campus community.
