Eastern Michigan University has announced that Ayesha Nadeem, a resident of Ypsilanti, has been named a Presidential Scholar for 2024. Nadeem is among 21 students selected for this honor, which recognizes first-year students who excel academically and show leadership and community commitment.
"Being a Presidential Scholar means a lot more than just financial support," said Nadeem. "It’s an incredible honor and a reflection of our dedication to academic excellence."
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is the university's most prestigious award, valued at up to $100,000. It covers full tuition, fees, and room and board for four years. Recipients are active members of The Honors College at EMU, where they engage in critical thinking, community service, and leadership activities. This scholarship aligns with EMU's mission to support students in achieving their educational goals while making positive contributions to society.
Nadeem graduated from Central Academy and intends to study information assistance and cyber defense. During high school, she held several leadership roles including editor-in-chief of the yearbook, captain of the Robotics Team, senior class vice president, co-founder of the Girl's STEM Club, head delegate for Model United Nations Crisis Committee, and director of Sisterhood for the Muslim Student Association. She also holds a second-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.
"We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU this fall," said Anne Eisenberg, dean of the Honors College. "They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries but share a passion for learning, service, and leadership. They are an impressive bunch as well with a mean SAT score of 1320 and an average high school GPA of 4.02."
In her first year at EMU, Nadeem plans to contribute actively to her campus community. "I plan to use this opportunity by being an active member of the Honors College, engaging fully in academic challenges and giving back through mentoring and outreach for EMU."
Eligible students can apply for the Presidential Scholarship during their senior year in high school.
Founded in 1849 as Michigan's second oldest public university, Eastern Michigan University serves nearly 13,000 students across various disciplines through its multiple colleges. National publications often recognize EMU for its diversity and commitment to applied education.
