The latest episode of EMU Today TV highlights the role of the EMU Foundation in supporting Eastern Michigan University's students, programs, and services. Produced by the University's Division of Communications, EMU Today TV is now in its eighth season and showcases various initiatives at Eastern Michigan University.

Founded in 1989, the EMU Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of the university. It secures funding to advance institutional goals through donor and alumni engagement, advocacy, and partnerships. The foundation's efforts include establishing scholarships and contributing to annual giving, planned giving, corporate giving, matching gifts, and faculty and staff campaigns.

Maher Salah, Vice President of Advancement and Executive Director of the EMU Foundation, discussed philanthropy's vital role at the university in this episode. "In a nutshell, philanthropy is the key to closing the gap and providing opportunities for an enhanced student experience," said Salah. He emphasized that donors can help eliminate barriers related to insufficient government funding and financial challenges faced by students.

Philanthropy at EMU connects donors with causes they care about deeply. This alignment enhances their engagement and impact. Molly Luempert-Coy (BS91, MA92), an alumna and EMU Foundation Board Trustee, shared her journey as a donor through initiatives like the Lumpert-Coy Family Endowed Scholarship. She was joined by Professor Anita Rich and alumna Kate Inman (BA24) to discuss donor contributions' impact on student success.

Hosted by EMU alum Mark S. Lee—a part-time marketing lecturer—the show can be viewed on the University's YouTube channel. Lee also hosts "In the Conference Room" podcast and contributes to CBS News Detroit.

The EMU Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Trustees that coordinates fundraising activities across campus units. Founded in 1849, Eastern Michigan University serves nearly 13,000 students across diverse fields.
