Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has been recognized as the top military and veteran-friendly university in Michigan for 2024 by Military Times Best for Vets. The university also secured the fourth position in the Midwest region, emphasizing its dedication to supporting military-affiliated students.
This accolade follows another recognition earlier this year when Military Friendly® Schools ranked EMU as No. 1 in Michigan and ninth nationwide. The Military Times rankings evaluate institutions based on student success metrics, resources focused on military personnel, financial aid, and overall institutional support.
Lt. Colonel Mike Wise, assistant director of Military and Veteran Services at EMU, expressed pride in the university's efforts to assist military and veteran students: “Eastern Michigan University and the Lt. Colonel Charles S. Kettles Military and Veteran Services Resource Center take so much pride in helping military and veteran students—and their families—achieve their educational goals in a caring, friendly environment.”
Veteran student Dylan Emery highlighted the significance of EMU’s veteran resources: “The veterans resource center has been instrumental in guiding me through my educational career,” he said.
Wise noted that the recent ranking "reflects the hard work that our team and the University put in every day to ensure seamless and supportive experiences for our student veteran and dependent population."
The Lt. Colonel Charles S. Kettles Military and Veteran Services Center at EMU supports over 500 student veterans annually along with their spouses and dependents. The center provides services such as resume writing assistance, academic advising, employment preparation coaching, enhanced priority for admission, registration services, and special recognition at commencement ceremonies.
Founded in 1849, Eastern Michigan University is one of Michigan's oldest public universities serving nearly 13,000 students across various degree programs.
