Eastern Michigan University has announced Charlotte Clavet as the 2024 Presidential Scholar. Clavet, from Brownstown, Michigan, is one of 21 students chosen for this prestigious honor. The scholarship recognizes top-performing first-year students who excel academically and demonstrate leadership and community commitment.
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is valued at up to $100,000, covering full tuition, fees, and four years of room and board. Recipients are active members of The Honors College at EMU, engaging in opportunities for critical thinking and community involvement.
"I was ecstatic finding out I received this scholarship; my parents were crying tears of joy hearing about it," said Clavet. "It makes me feel like all the effort I put into my studies and resume-building made a difference and now I can focus entirely on my studies."
Clavet graduated from Oscar A Carlson High School and is pursuing a dual major in English literature and political science with a minor in creative writing. She plans to attend law school after college to become a family or corporate lawyer. In high school, she participated in various extracurricular activities including the National Honors Society, Marching Band, Drama Club, Pep Club, Quiz Bowl team captaincy, Foreign Language Club vice presidency, Robotics marketing team leadership, volunteer work, and founding "Scooter’s Tale" charity.
Currently involved in EMU's Evergreen ACapella and Mock Trial team, Clavet looks forward to further extracurricular participation at Eastern Michigan University. "I'm only beginning but I truly hope to make the most of my college experience here at Eastern," she stated.
Ann Eisenberg, dean of The Honors College said: "We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU and the Honors College this fall. They come from different backgrounds but share a passion for learning."
The scholarship aligns with EMU's goal of promoting student success so they can achieve academic goals while impacting the world positively.
Applications for the Presidential Scholarship are open during senior year of high school.
Eastern Michigan University was founded in 1849 as Michigan's second oldest public university. It serves nearly 13,000 students across more than 300 programs through its various colleges.
