Eastern Michigan University has announced Joshua Sell, from Temperance, Michigan, as a Presidential Scholar for 2024. Sell is among 21 students awarded this honor, recognizing first-year students for academic excellence, leadership, and community commitment.

The EMU Presidential Scholarship is the university's top award, valued at up to $100K. It covers full tuition, fees, and four years of room and board. Scholars are active in The Honors College at EMU, which offers opportunities for critical thinking and community engagement.

“Because of this scholarship, I can spend my time learning about my passions without the stress of finances,” said Sell. “I'm able to explore educational paths that I would've never imagined without this scholarship.”

Sell graduated from Monroe County Middle College and is pursuing a degree in computer science with potential plans for a double major in English. He aims to work in software development before moving into game development. During high school, he participated on the swim team and was involved in college tutoring and the National Honors Society. His work experience includes roles at Kroger and as a swim coach at his local YMCA. He has volunteered with Bedford Alliance Church and the city of Monroe.

Sell expressed excitement about advancing his knowledge at EMU in software development. “This scholarship is an honorable award to receive, and reassures that the path I'm following in computer science is right for me,” he said.

Ann Eisenberg, dean of the Honors College at EMU stated: "We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU and the Honors College this fall.” She noted their diverse backgrounds but shared passion for learning and service.

The EMU Presidential Scholarship supports student success by helping them achieve academic goals while making positive contributions to society.

Prospective students can apply during their senior year of high school. For more information about the scholarship or Eastern Michigan University’s offerings across its various colleges visit their website.
