Eastern Michigan University announced it will close on Wednesday, January 22, due to forecasts of extreme cold temperatures and sub-zero wind chills. This marks the second consecutive day the university has closed for weather-related reasons.

The closure means that course activities, including class sessions and exams, are canceled unless they were already scheduled as fully online and asynchronous. Additionally, all employee meetings are canceled regardless of whether they were planned to occur in person or via Zoom. Employees are advised not to perform regular work duties in line with the Eastern Michigan University Weather Policy and relevant collective bargaining agreements.

Certain designated employees are exempt from these guidelines. These include those required to work on campus due to essential operations such as heating plant maintenance, physical plant services, food service, public safety, and WEMU radio station staff. Residence halls and apartments will remain open during the closure. Campus dining services will be available at select locations with updates provided on the EDining website.

Students involved in off-campus placements like teaching or clinical settings should adhere to instructions from their placement coordinators or onsite instructors.

During severe weather closures, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to check their emich.edu email accounts and the main university website for updates on conditions. Detailed campus closure guidelines can be found on the university's closure webpage.
