Eastern Michigan University has announced a closure starting tonight, affecting classes beginning after 5 p.m., and extending through the entire day of February 13. This decision comes in response to anticipated severe weather conditions. As part of this closure, the University's Board of Regents meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled.
The university's weather closure guidelines stipulate that course activities, including class sessions and exams, are canceled unless they were already planned as fully online and asynchronous. Additionally, all employee meetings are canceled regardless of whether they were to occur on Zoom. Employees are advised not to perform regular work duties in line with Eastern Michigan University's Weather Policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Certain employees are exempt from these guidelines due to the nature of their roles, such as those working in essential campus operations like the heating plant, physical plant, food service, public safety, and WEMU. Residence halls will remain open during the closure period with select dining services available; updates can be found on the EDining website.
Students engaged in off-campus placements should adhere to instructions provided by their placement coordinators or onsite instructors.
During the closure due to severe weather conditions, members of the university community are encouraged to check their emich.edu email accounts and visit the main University website for further updates. Comprehensive information regarding campus closures is available on the University closure website.
