Eastern Michigan University recognizes staff achievements at 2025 awards celebration

Eastern Michigan University recently held its 2025 Staff Distinguished Achievement Recognition Awards Celebration, honoring staff members whose contributions align with the university's mission and values. The event celebrated the efforts of employees through nominations reviewed by a campus-wide committee.

Rhonda Longworth, EMU's provost and executive vice president of academic and student affairs, remarked, “We celebrate those whose tireless dedication, conscientious efforts, and commitment have made a lasting impact within and beyond our institution.” Her admiration reflects the university's appreciation for impactful work.

The awards recognized various categories of staff excellence. In Community Engagement and Service, Meg Castro and Jeff Norris were honored. A nominator described Meg as detailed and respected in event planning, while Jeff was lauded for elevating EMU's aquatic community profile.

In Outstanding Leadership, Kristian Burns and Darcy Gifford were highlighted. Kristian was praised for her supportive and knowledgeable advising, while Darcy was recognized for her respectful leadership and supportive work environment.

Melissa Kachaturoff received the Outstanding Innovation award for her leadership in interprofessional programs within the School of Nursing. Nominators acknowledged her proactive initiatives.

For Student Engagement and Success, Sania Ahmed and Nicholas Malendowski were acknowledged. Sania was recognized for her dedicated client support at Counseling and Psychological Services. Nicholas was noted for his enthusiasm and commitment to student development at the Honors College.
