Eastern Michigan University has been recognized as one of the leading military and veteran-friendly institutions in the United States for the academic year 2025-2026. The university secured a "Top 10 Gold" designation, ranking No. 4 as a Military Friendly School among large public universities nationwide. Additionally, it was ranked No. 5 nationally as a Military Friendly Spouse School.
This recognition underscores the university's commitment to fostering opportunities for veterans, military-affiliated students, and their families. Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) Michael Wise, assistant director of Military and Veteran Services at Eastern, stated, “EMU’s Military and Veteran Services team is deeply committed to making sure our student veterans and military families feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.” He further noted, “We are proud that our programs and services are being recognized nationally.”
Student veteran Dylan Emery expressed the university’s dedication to supporting veterans, saying, "Eastern Michigan University has always shown great support for and unwavering dedication to its student veterans." Emery highlighted the availability of numerous resources to address the challenges faced by veterans and aid in their academic and career success.
Eastern Michigan University has consistently received Military Friendly recognition over several years, expanding its veteran support programs. These include academic advising, resume writing assistance, employment preparation, and priority course registration. The center’s retired military staff help ease the transition from military to academic life, understanding the specific challenges veterans face. The EMU Army ROTC Eagle Battalion, established in 1952, also plays a significant role in reinforcing the university's military-friendly credentials.
Founded in 1849, Eastern Michigan University serves more than 13,000 students across various levels of higher education. Offering over 300 majors, minors, and concentrations, the university is recognized for excellence and diversity in education.
