Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has announced the recipients of the 2025 Undergraduate Research Stimulus Program Awards. The initiative is designed to boost research skills among undergraduate students through collaboration with university faculty. The awards, which were approved by the Board of Regents on April 17, will cover a range of research topics, including climate change effects and the study of autism spectrum disorder.

The program awards students a $2,200 fellowship, distributed in bi-weekly payments and credited to their university accounts. Faculty collaborators receive $600, which can be used for lab supplies, travel, or other research-related expenses. The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs has allocated $48,400 to support 20 students and $10,520 to 19 faculty members. The awards are categorized into scholarships for fall 2024, winter 2025, and summer 2025.

Some of the award recipients and their research include Joe Brown, who is researching "Relationships Between Psychopathology and Firearms Attitudes" under the mentorship of Rusty McIntyre from the Department of Psychology, and Emmalynn Boulton, examining climate change impacts on hydrology, guided by Christopher Gellasch from the Department of Geography & Geology.

The awards endorsed by the University play a part in EMU's mission, promoting applied education and contributing to its recognition in national publications. More information can be found on EMU's official website and in the university's news portal, EMU Today.
