Eastern Michigan University's Matthew Gregory has been acknowledged in a national spotlight article by the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) and the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment (NABITA). Gregory, who serves as the Title IX coordinator and director of Sexual Misconduct and Prevention Programs at EMU, was recognized for his leadership in areas like equity-focused education, risk assessment, and civil rights compliance.
Gregory's testimonial, "Building Confidence Through Deliberate Processes," discusses his involvement in the first ATIXA and NABITA Winter Symposium held in Henderson, Nevada. "At a time when professionals across the country are navigating evolving federal regulations and institutional expectations, the symposium offered clarity and community," Gregory stated.
During this event, Gregory completed ATIXA’s Title VI Compliance Foundations Level One training and NABITA’s Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment certification. These educational programs contribute to his ongoing commitment to Title IX, Title VI, and student-focused behavioral intervention.
His testimonial highlights the delicate balance between compliance with federal civil rights obligations and ensuring on-campus safety, requiring both legal knowledge and empathy. Gregory also emphasized the significance of in-person training and the supportive community among higher education professionals, adapting to changing responsibilities. "Having access to this kind of knowledge strengthens our ability to serve students well, whether in cases of misconduct, discrimination, or broader concerns related to safety and support," he said.
Gregory has completed all available certification training from ATIXA and continues to develop campus policies that align with legal standards while remaining student-friendly.
