Eastern Michigan University has announced that sophomore Jason Folk has been named a recipient of the 2025 Student Voting Honor Roll by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. This recognition honors Folk's efforts to increase voter participation and democratic engagement among college students.

"This award doesn't just represent me, but the amazing work, dedication, and tenacity of the EMU community," stated Folk. "I am beyond proud to be an Eagle, and this is my way of supporting the community that has given me so much."

Folk, an Honors College student from Akron, Ohio, is completing a double major in philosophy and communications, with a minor in political science. His efforts in public service and voter engagement include serving on the Michigan Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force, where he advocated for legislative changes to make voting more accessible for college students.

He also participated as a Campus Vote Project Democracy Fellow, contributing to national efforts to support democratic engagement on college campuses.

Much of Folk's work occurs through Voting at EMU, an initiative managed by Eastern's Engage office, and he is the founder of Eastern Votes, a student-led organization that promotes events such as election night watch parties.

"Being an active citizen goes far beyond just voting," Folk expressed. "It involves staying current, contacting elected officials, and so much more."

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, established in 2016, supports college campuses in nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts. Historical data from ALL IN shows an increase in voter registration and turnout rates at participating schools.

Eastern Michigan University, founded in 1849, is recognized for its educational excellence and serves nearly 13,000 students. The institution offers over 300 different areas of study across various disciplines.
