City of Ann Arbor - Public Transit issued the following announcement on March 20.
Continuing efforts to respond to COVID-19, the City of Ann Arbor and the Downtown Development Authority are working together to clarify short-term measures in place to ensure the safety of parking facility staff and customers and to assist restaurants while food service is limited to carry-out and delivery only.
Effective March 16, there will be no hourly charges in all public parking structures and non-metered public parking lots. After consulting with representatives from the downtown merchants association, this action is in place through April 5, 2020. The DDA’s parking operator, Republic Parking, will have staff on-site throughout this period to address basic operational, safety and maintenance needs throughout the system. Parking patrons must adhere to parking restrictions and signage within the facilities as usual.
Enforcement of all metered parking spaces downtown, both on-street meters and metered parking lots, remains in operation. Parking in a metered spot requires payment. However, over a hundred parking spaces throughout downtown have been designated as “15-minute parking for take-out customers and delivery drivers." These spaces allow customers and delivery drivers to pick up food from restaurants without paying for on-street parking. These spaces can be found on most blocks and have orange meter bags over the meter heads along with signage indicating their use. These 15-minute spaces will remain in effect until the State of Michigan ban on restaurant and bar dine-in operations is lifted.
The City and the DDA will continue to monitor this rapidly evolving situation to determine if additional changes need to be made.
