Central and Riverside Academies win top honors at EMU's Math Facts Challenge

In a display of friendly competition, a few hundred students from grades first through eight gathered at Eastern Michigan University’s campus for the annual Math Challenge. Central Academy in Ann Arbor took home the first-place elementary school trophy, while Riverside Academy clinched the middle school trophy. The challenge is hosted by EMU’s Charter Schools Office.

Students from Riverside Academy won the middle school Math Facts trophy, and students from Central Academy won the elementary school Math Facts challenge. The event is designed for students to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics as they face grade-level appropriate questions.

The competition, structured like an NCAA bracket, saw students pitted against each other in their grade-level break-out rooms. The final four students from each grade room returned to the ballroom for the ultimate showdown.

All mathletes received a participation ribbon and a souvenir bag. The schools that participated this year are as follows:

EMU Charter Schools:

- Academy for Business and Technology Elementary

- Academy for Business and Technology Middle School

- Commonwealth Community Development Academy

- Dr. Joseph F Pollack Academic Center of Excellence (Pace Academy)

- Global Tech Academy

- Grand Blanc Academy

- Great Lakes Academy

Non-EMU Charter Schools:

- Bridge Academy East

- Bridge Academy West

- Bridge Academy

- Central Academy

- Riverside Academy

- Frontier International Detroit

- Frontier International Warren

- Global Heights Academy
