Eastern Michigan University (EMU) marked Pride Month with significant participation at Detroit’s Motor City Pride festival and Ypsi Pride on June 8. EMU's sponsorship of Motor City Pride included the launch of its “Grow With Us” theme, emphasizing the connections between flowers and the pride community.

At both events, EMU provided attendees with giveaways and educational resources to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. Emma Mentley Wuetrich, coordinator for EMU’s LGBT Resource Center, stated, “Everyone deserves a safe and inclusive environment to learn and grow. We aim to support, educate, and create meaningful experiences for our LGBTQ+ community, both on campus and within southeastern Michigan.”

In addition to distributing unique Pride Month materials, the university developed a special website detailing various pride flags and the symbolism of certain flowers in representing the queer community.

Motor City Pride is a volunteer-run organization promoting awareness and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. This year’s event attracted over 65,000 people. Besides participating in Motor City Pride, EMU also took part in Ypsi Pride held in Ypsilanti Historic Depot Town. Additionally, EMU will host a DEI Movie Break on Wednesday, June 12 at 2 p.m. in room 270 of EMU’s Student Center for a screening of "De-Lovely" to honor Pride Month.
