Eastern Michigan University has introduced a $2,000 housing grant as part of its free tuition program, known as the Eagle Guarantee. This initiative, which will be available to new students enrolling in fall 2025, aims to further reduce the financial burden on Pell Grant and Michigan Achievement Scholarship recipients.

Katie Condon, vice president for enrollment management, stated, “Eastern was among the first universities in Michigan to offer a free tuition program and it’s been a popular choice for qualifying students for more than a decade. We’re thrilled to expand the program for new students in fall 2025 to include a $2,000 housing grant."

Condon highlighted that EMU's campus housing has undergone significant upgrades thanks to the $200 million Welcome Home project. The university recently opened two new apartment buildings and renovated all other residence halls. "Every unit on our campus features air conditioning and enhanced Wi-Fi. The new apartments include dishwashers and all-new appliances and furnishings, along with plenty of student gathering and study spaces,” she added.

To qualify for the Eagle Guarantee, students must meet several criteria:

- A cumulative high school GPA of 3.0

- Eligibility for Pell Grant with household assets less than $60,000 (as determined by FAFSA)

- Michigan residency with eligibility for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship

- First-time college status (under the age of 21)

Applicants need to apply to EMU before March 15, 2025, complete the FAFSA by this date, and send it to EMU using code: 002259. Additional details can be found on the Eagle Guarantee webpage.
