Eastern Michigan University joins Welcome Corps on Campus initiative
Eastern Michigan University announced its participation in the Welcome Corps on Campus program at the June 20 Board of Regents meeting, making EMU the first university in the nation, and one of just 18 universities this year, to host students as part of the initiative. Smith, the longest-serving Michigan public university president among current presidents, will step aside after ten years since he began his duties on July 1, 2016.

Eastern Michigan University grants sabbatical leave awards for 2024–25 academic year
Eastern Michigan University has approved sabbatical leaves for a distinguished group of faculty members for the 2024-25 academic year. The sabbaticals will enable faculty to engage in advanced study and research on topics such as curricula development for electric and autonomous vehicles, employee turnover in the hospitality industry, and the behavioral patterns of tarantulas in Colorado. Eastern Michigan University approves operating budget amid rising costs
The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved a 2024-25 General Fund operating budget of $317 million on June 20. The budget's revenues include $220 million in tuition and fees, $86.4 million in state appropriations, $4.7 million from investment income, and $5.1 million from other revenue sources. Expenditures encompass $155.9 million in personnel costs, $63.1 million for University-sponsored financial aid, a net transfer budget of $53.9 million, and $44.1 million for services, supplies, materials, and other expenses.

Eastern Michigan University awards fellowships to support diverse faculty research projects
Eastern Michigan University will award 41 faculty members Faculty Research and Creative Activity Fellowships for the 2024-25 academic year. These fellowships will enable recipients to begin foundational research, including the challenges posed by ChatGPT, ageism and workplace discrimination, and the relationship between trauma, stressor-related disorders, and adolescent substance abuse. Central and Riverside Academies win top honors at EMU's Math Facts Challenge
In a display of friendly competition, a few hundred students from grades first through eight gathered at Eastern Michigan University’s campus for the annual Math Challenge. Central Academy in Ann Arbor took home the first-place elementary school trophy, while Riverside Academy clinched the middle school trophy. The challenge is hosted by EMU’s Charter Schools Office.
