Message from DTE:

Late Monday afternoon, severe weather moved through the DTE service territory, touching numerous communities in southeast Michigan. At this time, our crews and teams are out assessing damage to understand the breadth and scope of the damage impacting more than 220,000 customers. Winds gusting to 70 mph damaged trees, power lines and equipment on the grid. I’ve included some photos below to give you perspective on the damage we’re beginning to see.

As with all storms and power outages, please keep the following in-mind:

-Downed power lines may be hidden by debris, so be careful as you head outside.

-Stay at least a bus length (20 feet) away from downed power lines and don’t touch anything they may be in contact with – always consider them live and dangerous.

-Everyone should also heed the warning of yellow caution tape, which indicates there is a downed power line in the area. DO NOT CROSS YELLOW CAUTION TAPE.

-Never use a portable generator inside a home or business. It emits carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. Keep it outside, away from windows and doors, so the fumes won’t come in.
